Self-Care is Vital...Like Oxygen

What if we really believed that taking care of ourselves first was as vital to our well-being as oxygen?

Without oxygen, you quickly lose steam. You get dizzy. Everything gets confusing. Your next breath becomes of monumental importance.

And yet self-care is often viewed as a treat we earn once we’ve done all our work.

Self care is not a treat you earn. It is how you lovingly take care of yourself so that you can be the best version of yourself – for your own well-being.

I believe the ultimate in self-care is managing our minds. It’s the greatest gift we can give ourselves, because it affects absolutely every area of our lives.

Without a managed mind, everything is fuzzy. It’s confusing. It’s frustrating. It’s overwhelming. It’s irritating.

But with a managed mind, everything is figureoutable.

There’d be no thinking, “I don’t have time to take a 15 min walk today.” You’d make sure it happened no matter what.

There’d be no eating the box of cookies to make you feel better, because you’d be honoring your emotions instead of eating them.

There’d be no internet shopping to distract you from that painful relationship.

And you’d learn to protect and nurture your priorities, because you knew your life depended on it. Your favorite relationships, your passions, your dreams…they wouldn’t get lost in the urgent demands from people around you.

What is one thing you can start focusing on and caring for?

Your emotional health?

Your physical health?

How about your relationships?

Pick one thing and start today.

Your life depends on it.
